The majority of funds raised by the DHS-MPA is earned by the volunteers who prepare and sell food in concession stands at the Kottmeyer Football Stadium and DiSerafino Soccer Stadium, which are both located adjacent to Downingtown West High School. All proceeds earned at the stands are used by DHS-MPA to help provide the funding for the support of all music programs at Downingtown East, Downingtown West and STEM.
The stands are typically open for all East and West home football and soccer games. In addition, we open for special events such as the "Music in Motion" band competition and the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event, which is held in May. We are always looking for volunteers to help out, not only to help out with working at the events, but also with the day-to-day operation of the stands. The day-to-day operation includes shopping for food and other supplies and general maintenance of the stands.

MPA Concession Stand Volunteer Guide
(September 2012)
- Sign-up by selecting the 'CLICK HERE TO SIGN-UP' link for the iVolunteer site from the Volunteer Sign-up page or by sending an e-mail to MPA.Concessions@gmail.com
- Help is needed in the fall for football and soccer games, in May Relay for Life, and in the spring for our annual clean-up. More volunteers are needed during the Coatesville and East/West games, and for both East and West homecoming football games.
- We ask each family to volunteer for a minimum of 3 events during the year. We could really use the help and each music program could use the money!
- If you’ve never worked at the stands before, we recommend working at a couple of soccer games first to learn how things work. This will make the transition to working football games much smoother.
- Football and soccer schedules are available on line at www.dhsmpa.org.
- Arrival times:
- Football: Most games begin at 7 pm. Arrive at least 1 hour prior to start time if you’re preparing food. Arrive 30 to 45 minutes prior if working the counter area; you will be assigned where needed.
- Soccer: Most games begin at 5:30 pm (JV) and 7 pm (Varsity). Arrive by 5 pm. If games start at a different time, arrive 30 minutes prior to game start.
- If you can’t arrive until later, we can always use help after the game to help wash dishes and restock for the next event.
- When you arrive, sign-in and put on a nametag, wash your hands, and slip on gloves (supplied) if preparing food.
- Location:
- The concession stands are located at Kottmeyer Stadium at Downingtown West High School.
- Soccer games are played at DiSerifino Stadium (adjacent to Kottmeyer Stadium); the Home stand at the west end of Kottmeyer Stadium is used for soccer games.
- Come to the Home stand first (the one closest to Manor Ave. / Rt. 322). It’s the small building to the right of the entrance to Kottmeyer Stadium.
- Tell the parking attendant you’re working at the concession stand and they’ll allow you to park in the lot behind the stand (space permitting).
- Duration:
- Football: For 7 pm start times, operations are usually done by 10pm, or 10:30 if there’s lots of dishwashing/cleanup needed.
- Soccer: For 7 pm start times, operations are usually done by 9 pm.
- What to bring and what to wear:
- Bring a hat. Food preparers must wear one, and it doesn't hurt for servers to wear one.
- Feel free to bring an apron if you’d like but don’t forget to take it home. We’d hate to see you lose it.
- Wear easily washable clothing that you don’t mind having spills or stains on.
- For safety and health reasons, open-toe shoes are not permitted in the concession stand and long hair must be pulled back in a pony tail or under a hat. If you will be working in the food preparation area, long pants are strongly suggested. If you are working as a server, you will need a sweatshirt / jacket as the season progresses.
- Breaks/Meals: Volunteers who work the concession stand for an entire game are welcome to a complimentary hot dog or burger and a soda. We ask that volunteers eat after the half time rush. Their position should be covered by another volunteer before they take a break. After eating, volunteers must wash their hands before they return to their position.
- NHS Credit and Graduation Projects: High school students are permitted to help and can earn credit for National Honor Society service and Graduation Projects. For safety reasons, students under the age of 18 cannot work in the food preparation areas. Students 9th grade and up can help by working the counter area. Students 18 and over can work in any area of the stands. For safety reasons, we cannot allow children younger than 9th grade to work at the stand.
- Cancellations and Illness: If you find that you can’t work the stand and you need to cancel, please contact Diane Campbell as far in advance as possible. If you are feeling ill, have a fever, diarrhea, or are vomiting please STAY HOME. Your well being and the well being of our customers is our first priority.
